The Genetic Engineering Services Unit (GESU) is a commercial arm
of the institute which allows for interaction with private and public sector entities. It
was established in 1994 to provide reagents, kits and diagnostics produced by genetic
engineering and molecular biology for agricultural production. The unit provides and sells
state-of-the-art services and products produced by the institute. It has a governing board
chaired by the director of AGERI and the members comprise three leading scientists from
the institute; the Director of Finance and Administration in ARC as well as the Head of
the Finance Department in AGERI. The rules and regulations governing the operation of the
Unit have been established through the appropriate ministerial decrees at ARC.
