Establishment of
a Regeneration & Transformation System
in Cucumber

Cucumber is one of the most important cucurbit crops in Egypt. It was reported to be susceptible to CMV, ZYMV and WMV-2. The yield and quality of cucumber are drastically reduced by CMV. At AGERI, we are developing a regeneration and transformation system in cucumber (variety Beit Alpha MR).

OBJECTIVES

•  Establishment and development of a regeneration system in cucumber (variety Beit Alpha MR) using different explants and modified media.

•  Establishment and development of a transformation system in cucumber (variety Beit Alpha MR) using some marker genes (NPTII and GUS genes) via Agrobacterium mediated gene transfer system.
