Main Goals & Responsibilities
	• Establishment and development of a regeneration system in some cucurbit plants (squash and melon). • Establishment and development of a transformation system in some cucurbit plants via Agrobacterium -mediated system. • Production of transgenic cucurbit plants resistant to some plant viruses. • Evaluation of the transgenic plants based on molecular, serological, biological as well as morphological and yield characters.
Current Research Projects
	• Production of Transgenic Local Varieties of Squash and Some Varieties of Melon Plants Resistant to Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Potyvirus (ZYMV). • Production of Transgenic Banana Plants Resistant to Banana Bunchy Top Virus (BBTV) and/or Banana-Cucumber Mosaic Cucumovirus (Banana-CMV). • Establishment of a Regeneration and Transformation System in Cucumber.
Current Research Services
	• Production of diagnostic PCR kits for accurate detection of BBTV. • Isolation, purification and characterization of the Egyptian strains of sugarcane mosaic Potyvirus. • Establishment and development of a regeneration and transformation systems for Vicia faba plants.
