| Main Goals & Responsibilities | |
• Incorporate transgenic plants with genes for salt and drought tolerance into ongoing Egyptian breeding programs. • Transform Egyptian wheat cultivars with genes for salt and drought tolerance. • Conduct greenhouse and field performance trials of regenerated transgenic plants. • Gene construction involving stress-related genes (mtlD, HVA1, fructan, P5CS, P5CR). • Monitor expression of stress tolerance genes by using hormone-inducible promoters. • Conduct stress experiment in the greenhouse to evaluate stress tolerance genes in available transgenic plants.
