Main Goals & Responsibilities

Characterization of geminiviruses that devastate crops in Egypt.

Production of molecular and serological tools for diagnosis of geminiviruses.

The application of pathogen-derived resistance to genetically-engineering resistance to tomato yellow leaf curl Geminivirus (TYLCV) into tomato crops.

Study the geminivirus/whitefly interaction and try to find a suitable way to control them.

Molecular studies of sugarcane streak Geminivirus in Egypt.

Studies on transcriptional promoters and protein expression and function of C4 open reading frame of TYLCV-Eg.

Development of transcriptional and regeneration protocols on Egyptian tomato cultivar.

Current Research Projects

Engineering Tomatoes to Induce Resistance to Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV) from Egypt.

Protein Engineering, an Efficient Approach for Controlling Viruliferous Whiteflies.

Whitefly Biotypes and Biotype-Specific Transmission of Geminiviruses in Egypt and Arizona.

Current Research Services

Production of diagnostic PCR kits for accurate detection of TYLCV.
