Main Goals & Responsibilities


Production of pathogen-free plants via tissue culture and micropropagation techniques.

Establishment and improvement of micropropagation methods for selected crops and important woody plants.

Establishment of regeneration protocols for major Egyptian crops and plants.

Development of transformation protocols through biolistic bombardment and Agrobacterium mediated methods.

Evaluation of transgenic materials through molecular methods i.e. PCR, Southern blot and ELISA.

 

Current Research Projects


Developing Genetically Engineered Resistance to Potato Viruses.

Development of Potato Tuber Moth (PTM) Resistance in Potato.

Development of Improved Strategies for the Control of Faba Bean Necrotic Yellows Virus (FBNYV) in Food Legume Crops of West Asia and North Africa.

 

Current Research Services


Micropropagation of Stavia rebaudiana for steviosids compounds (rebaudioside) as a natural sweetener.

Micropropagation and maintenance of elite virus free germplasm in collaboration with international centers.

Micropropagation and conservation of mulberry germplasm.
