| Main Goals & Responsibilities |
|
Studying the genetic variability within the germplasm of economically
important crops (tomato, maize and rapeseed) using different molecular markers such as
RFLPs, RAPDs and microsatellites (SSRs).
Developing
a comprehensive genetic map for rapeseed and tomato.
Providing
molecular markers for the direct improvement of these crops through marker assisted
selection (MAS).
Fingerprinting
of elite germplasm for cultivar identification, estimation of genetic relatedness,
monitoring of seed purity and plant proprietary rights protection.
Establishment of an efficient regeneration and transformation system for
elite Egyptian maize inbred lines.
Production
of transgenic Egyptian maize lines resistant to stem borers, specifically Sesamia
cretica by introducing AGERI proprietary owned insect resistance endotoxin Bt gene.
Molecular
analysis and field testing of transgenic maize material.
|
| Current Research Projects |

Genome Mapping for Development of Improved Rapeseed (Brassica
napus) Varieties Using Molecular Markers. Use of Different DNA Markers in Identifying Linkage
Relationships of Important Trait Loci in Tomato (L. esculentum).
Fingerprinting of Elite Maize Lines Using
Molecular Markers.
Maize Transformation for Development of Stem
Borer (Sesamia cretica ) Resistance Using Bt Genes.
