Main Goals & Responsibilities

Isolation, molecular identification and conservation of newly discovered insect viruses in Egypt.

Production of wild type and genetically modified baculoviruses for biological pest control.

Development of baculovirus expression system for protein production.

Study the development of insect resistance to local and authentic isolates of entomopathogenic bacteria and viruses.

Identification of neurotoxic peptides from scorpions and snakes and isolation of their genes to be used for genetic engineering of entomopathogenic viruses.

Production of antisera against major viruses in Egypt.

Current Research Projects

Generation of Genetically Modified Baculoviruses for Insect Pest Control.

Development of Transgenic Insects Using Transposable Elements for Autocidal Pest Control.

Current Research Services

DNA fingerprinting using molecular markers (RAPDs)

identification and characterization of animal material

detection of genetic variability and estimation of genetic relatedness

Production of ELISA kits for measuring resistance of insects against chemical insecticides of different groups.
